What is EGAMI?
The acronym EGAMI stands for Expert Group Antwerp Molecular Imaging and represents a platform that integrates all imaging techniques and expertise present at the University of Antwerp. EGAMI, therefore, offers a wide range of specific imaging applications, ranging from the subcellular level to in vivo imaging in small animals, such as mice, rats and birds.
Please note that EGAMI is the inverse for IMAGE, with the underlying philosophy that any perception is an image of reality.
Vision
EGAMI's vision is to apply imaging technology aimed at providing profound insight into biological and biomedical developments and applications.
Mission
Our mission is to offer a hands-on platform where specific problems can be solved by applying state-of-the-art imaging techniques. To this end, we have pooled all imaging techniques and expertise of our university. Available techniques include electron microscopy and several specific fluorescence and light microscopic applications to solve subcellular and cellular questions,
as well as small animal in vivo imaging obtained by bioluminescence, magnetic resonsance, µCT, positron emission tomography and single photon emission-computed tomography. For specific applications for which the technology needs to be custom made we have in-house expertise, that can be implemented on the task at hand.
Furthermore in-house expertise is available for applications necessitating the adaptation or development of custom-made technology.
Since we are aware that the design of studies necessary to solve highly specific scientific problems is an important issue for both cooperators and customers, we provide a network of external experts or, whenever necessary actively seek additional expertise.
We are confident that this combined approach will allow EGAMI to tackle any problems within the imaging domain. |
