Hubert Cuyckens

Position: Professor of English Linguistics

Research unit: Functional, Cognitive and Descriptive Linguistics

Kristin Davidse

Kristin Davidse

Position: Professor of English Linguistics

Research unit: Functional, Cognitive and Descriptive Linguistics

GRAMIS research: Kristin Davidse works within a functional-cognitive linguistic frame; recent work (including supervision of doctorates and projects) has focused mostly on areas related to the English NP, such as quantification and identification, and on grammaticalization and emergent grammar in the English NP, e.g.  nouns or adjectives shifting from descriptive to emphasizing, (post)determining, quantifying and other (inter-)subjective uses.

Christopher Shank

Christopher Shank

Position: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research unit: Functional, Cognitive and Descriptive Linguistics

GRAMIS research: Christopher Shank works on the relation between grammaticalization and complemen-tation, both from a synchronic and diachronic perspective. He uses corpus data from English.

Lobke Ghesquière

Lobke Ghesquière

Position: PhD Researcher

Research unit: Functional, Cognitive and Descriptive Linguistics

GRAMIS research: Lobke Ghesquière works on grammaticalization and (inter)subjectfication phenomena in the prenominal adjectival string of the English NP, both from a synchronic and a diachronic perspective.

Sigi Vandewinkel

Sigi Vandewinkel

Position: PhD Researcher

Research unit: Functional, Cognitive and Descriptive Linguistics

GRAMIS research: Sigi Vandewinkel works on ordering in the English NP and the subjectification and grammaticalization hypotheses which posit paths of semantic and constructional change for constituent elements of the NP. Most notably, the lefward movement of elements towards different structural positions in premodifier structure are further investigated.

Position: PhD Researcher

Research unit: Functional, Cognitive and Descriptive Linguistics

GRAMIS research: An Van linden works on the significance of complementation patterns with modal-evaluative adjectives (e.g., essential, important, proper, good) for grammaticalization.
