Welcome!
M2P is the Media, Movements and Politics research group of the University of Antwerp, situated within the Political Science department. The non-institutional side of the political processes is the focus of M2P. M2P's research interests lie more specifically with three non-institutional political actors: social movements (civil society), mass media, and the public (public opinion and participation).
How do these actors interact with institutional politics? How do they maintain their autonomous, non-institutional role? Are they important political actors or only negligible players? The more general question is to what extent these non-institutional political actors affect political decision-making. Or in other words: what is the power of social movements, mass media, and the public?

The World Says No to War studies the rally against the invasion of Iraq in 2003 to understand who spoke out, why they did, and how so many people were mobilized for a global demonstration. The contributors analyze how the new tools of the Internet were combined with conventional means of mobilization to rally millions around common goals and against common targets.
