Description general research area:

EMAT focusses on developping and applying advanced transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques including atomic resolution and energy-loss spectroscopy for the characterisation of a variety of materials such as alloys, ceramics, semiconductors, nanostructures, nanoparticles, etc.... The equipment consists of six TEM instruments (200CX, 4000EX, CM20, CM30, HVTEM 1250, 3000F) plus the necessary sample preparation machinery.

Description particular research topics for MULTIMAT:

In the framework of the RTN project the focus will be on the characteristaion of structures relevant for understanding the behaviour of phase transformations and the resulting nano- and microstructures.

Available positions:

Early Stage Researchers

Preference is for Masters in Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry with a good knowledge of solid state physics, materials science and preferably some training in materials characterisation techniques including transmission electron microscopy. The particular research topic lies in the area of phase transformations in alloys or oxides with emphasis on displacive transformations.

The preferred starting date is October 1, 2006 with an envisaged stay of 3 years during which a Ph.D. work could be completed.
