Department of Mathematical Methods and Models in Applied Sciences
via Belzoni, 7
I - 35131 Padova
Italy

Affiliation: Department of Mathematical Methods and Models in Applied Sciences, Università degli Studi di Padova, Padova, Italy

Team leader: Mario Pitteri

tel:  39 - 049 - 827-5928
fax: 39 - 049 - 827-5995

Description general research area:

The members of this team have been involved for more than fifteen years in research work on the mechanics of crystalline solids by means of nonlinear elasticity, with special focus on phase transitions and defects in both simple and complex lattices. They have given established contributions to the subject and are currently actively pursuing the scientific objectives of the network. Their research appears in leading journals in the field. They have collaborated and are currently collaborating with researchers working in Europe as well as in the USA.

Description particular research topics for MULTIMAT:

In the framework of the RTN project the focus will be on:
Clarification of multilattice symmetry and kinematics
Relation of the arithmetic classification criterion to other criteria of crystal-structure enumeration
Determination of the constitutive functions suitable for specific materials undergoing phase transformations
New tools and concepts for the modeling and mathematical analysis of multiscale problems in phase transformations.

In particular, students enrolled in a doctoral program are eligible to apply.
Senior positions: applicants for these positions should hold a doctoral degree and should not have been involved in research activities for longer than 10 years, counted on day of receiving the academic title allowing them to access the doctoral program.

NATIONALITY REQUIREMENTS All NON-ITALIAN nationals of the EU and associated states can apply. Italians who have been working in non-European countries for longer than four out of the last five years may also apply.

DURATION OF APPOINTMENTS
Junior appointments: between three and nine months;
Senior appointments: between three and eight months.
Applicants should indicate their preferred length of stay. In exceptional cases, extension and/or renewal of an appointment will be considered.
