Arctia villica (Linnaeus, 1758)

A rare species occurring especially in the south of Belgium, though sometimes observed in other regions.

The larva lives on various herbaceous plants like Lamium album and Stellaria. Hibernates as a small larva.

The adults fly from late May till the end of June in one generation a year. The moths can easily be disturbed from the vegetation and come to light.
