A
very rare and local species in Belgium, mainly known from the south of
the country. Recently (2008) a population was discovered in the south
of West-Vlaanderen were it is locally common.
The
larva feeds on lichens and algae on rocks, but also reportedly on Lotus corniculatus and related plants. Hibernates as a larva and pupates in a cocoon under a stone or in a rock crevice.
The
adults fly usually in one, sometimes two generations a year; from late
June till late September. They come to light soon after dark and
occasionally to sugar.
