of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Tyria jacobaeae (Linnaeus, 1758)

A rather common species throughout Belgium.

The larva lives on Senecio jacobaea, sometimes gregariously. Hibernates as a pupa in a loose cocoon underground.

The adults fly in from May till the end of July in one generation a year. They are active during the day and later come to light.
