Bucculatrix cidarella Zeller, 1839

A rare species in Belgium.

The young larva mines the leaf of Alnus glutinosa in a short and narrow gallery. Less often used is Myrica gale as food plant. Later, it feeds externally on the leaf, creating small feeding windows. Pupation in a yellow-brown, ribbed cocoon, darkening with age.

The adults have been observed from mid May tiil August. They are active in the evening.
