Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Parapoynx stratiotata (Linnaeus, 1758)

A fairly common species throughout Belgium, but restricted to wet habitats.

The larva feeds below the surface of the water between spun leaves of several aquatic plant species like Potamogeton spp., Elodea, Ceratophyllum demersum, or Nuphar lutea. It hibernates. Pupation takes place in a large, pinkish, oval cocoon attached to a stem or debris.

The adults fly from the end of May till early September. They are active at dusk and later come to light.
