A
fairly common species throughout Belgium, but easily overlooked.
The
larva feeds on the flowers and developing seeds of Heracleum sphondylium,
Pastinaca
sativa and Apium
nodiflorum.
It pupates in the main stem of the food plant.
The
adults fly in one generation a year; onwards from August till May of
the next year. They hibernate in
sheltered places. Occasionally attracted to light, especially after
overwintering.
