This
cosmopolitan family now contains 98 described species mainly in the
Palaearctic and Australian regions, but it is certain that this is not
the true number of representatives of the family, since more detailed
investigations in the Ethiopian, Oriental, Australian and Neotropical
faunal regions will undoubtedly produce a lot of hitherto unknown taxa (Gaedike 1996b:
vi).
