Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Eriocrania salopiella (Stainton, 1858)

A recent arrival (2009) in Belgium.

The monophagous larva feeds on Betula. The mine starts as a narrow gallery near the midrib and gradually becomes a large blotch. Frass in long threads. Pupates in a tough silken cocoon in the earth or debris.

The adults fly from late April towards the end of May. They can be observed resting on the trees or flying around the trees in sunshine. Later they occasionally come to light.
