common species in Belgium, but overlooked
monophagous larva feeds on Betula.
The mine is a large, full depth blotch along the edge of the leaf. Frass in long threads. Pupates in a tough
silken cocoon in the earth or debris.
adults fly during March and April. They can be
resting on the
trees or flying around the trees in sunshine. Later they occasionally
come to light.
