Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Apodia bifractella (Duponchel, 1843)

A rare and seldom seen species in Belgium. Only recent observations in the province of Antwerpen. Adults are very secretive, but it's believed that it may be common wherever the food plants occur.

The larva feeds on the seeds of Pulicaria dysenterica, Inula conyzae and Aster tripolium. It hibernates in a narrow tube which is made by spinning the seeds together. Pupates in a tough silken cocoon mixed with frass and seed fragments.

The adults fly in one generation a year; from late June towards September. They become active from late afternoon and later come to light.
