A fairly common species in Belgium, recorded from six provinces. Due to the plain brown colour, it's decidedly overlooked. This species is the commonest of the genus Bryotropha in our country.

The larva lives on Graminae and feed at the base, on the stems and hibernates.

The adults fly in June-July and are easely flushed from out of long grass during the daytime. They come to light.

ID: most species within this genus are not easy to separate because of individual variation and a tendency to form ecological forms, so it's best to separate them with examination of the genitalia for reliable identification.
