A
rather rare species in Belgium, only seen in four provinces. Recent
observations mainly in the north and the center of the country.
The
larva lives between spun leaves or under a leaf-edge of Betula.
It hibernates as an egg.
The
adults fly from mid June till September. They use to rest on trunks of
birches during the day
and come to light.
ID:
A very variable species. In fresh specimens, the white coloured labial
palps with dark
rings, the white head, thorax and tegulae, and the white forewing with
blackish markings are diagnostic for this species. About five groups of
raised blackish scales are present on the forewings.
