Glyphipterix forsterella (Fabricius, 1781)

A rare and local species in Belgium.

The larva lives on the seeds of various species of Carex. Hibernates as a larva in the spikes of the food plant.

The diurnal adults fly in one generation a year; from late April towards June and can be seen feeding on the flowers of the food plant.

ID; this species is distinguished from G. simpliciella, G. schoenicolella, G. equitella and G. haworthana by the clear silver dot in the blackish apical spot.
