of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Caloptilia fidella (Reutti, 1853)

A recently new arrival in Belgium (2009).

The larva feeds on Humulus lupulus and on introduced Celtis australis. When young, in a triangular mine in the angle of leaf veins, later it lives and pupates within a rolled leaf margin. It hibernates as an adult.

The adults fly in two generations a year; during June and from late August till May next year.
