Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Dialectica imperialella (Zeller, 1847)

A very rare species in Belgium, only known from a publication in 1860 from the province of Namur. The second observation was done in 2008 in the province of Antwerpen. Since then, the species is recorded from other provinces, but always in very small numbers. But it is still underrecorded, because the species is not rare in the Netherlands.

The larva lives on Lithospernum officinale, Pulmonaria officinalis and Symphytum officinale were it makes a blotch mine. Usual the larvae leaves the mine just before pupation. Pupates in a flat reddish cocoon spun in detritius or occasionally in the mine.

The adults fly in one generation a year; during May and June. They come occasionally to light and the adult is seldom seen.
