of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Phyllonorycter esperella (Goeze, 1783)

An uncommon species in Belgium, occuring locally where its foodplant grows.

Initially the larva makes a flat silvery blotch on the upperside of Carpinus betulus. When full-grown, the leaf is folded completely.

The adults fly in two generations a year; during May and  August.
