A
common species throughout Belgium.
The
larva lives in a mine on the underside of the leaf of Acer pseudoplatanus.
The leaf may fold downwards if the mine is at margin. Pupation inside
the mine in a flimsy cocoon and frass in a pile at a corner. The pupa
of the second generation hibernates.
The
adults fly in two generations a year: in April-May and again from late
July till September. They come to light.
ID
mine: small mine on underside of leaf, round or irregular in outline,
when on the margin of the leaf causing the upper surface to curl under,
but when away from the edge causing only slight distortion. Lower
epidermis with many small creases.
