Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Phyllonorycter platani (Staudinger, 1870)

Very common species throughout Belgium.

The larva lives in a mine on the underside, less often on the upperside of the leaf of Platanus. The mine is very obvious and more mines occurs regularly on one leaf, in some cases up to 60. It pupates inside the mine and the pupa hibernates.

The adults fly in three generations a year: from April towards early June, late june towards mid August and again during Oktober. They are mainly active at dusk and come to light.
