Phyllonorycter rajella (Linnaeus, 1758)


A fairly common species found in many parts in Belgium.

The larva lives on Alnus spp. It makes a small mine between two veins on the underside of the leaf, at or near the midrib. The lower epidermis has one strong crease. In autumn often several mines on one leaf. Pupation inside the mine in a cocoon attached on under- and upperside of the mine.The pupa of the second generation hibernates.

The adults fly in two generations a year: in April-May and in August-September.
