A local and not so common species in Belgium.

The larva lives on narrow-leaved Salix like Salix alba, S. dapnoides, S. fragilis, S. incana, S. purpurea and S. viminalis. It makes a large mine on the underside of the leaf. Pupation inside the mine in a strong brown cocoon formed from the sides of the mine. The pupa of the second generation hibernates.

The adults fly in two generations a year; from late April till May and again during August. They come to light in small numbers.

ID: underside mine parallel to the leaf edge, the lower surface of the mine is strongly contracted, arching the upper epidermis and causing the edge to curl down, forming a narrow tube. Identification of mines on narrow-leaved Salix is not easy and therefore it's best to rear the adults.
