Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Carcharodus alceae (Esper, 1780)

A vagrant species in Flanders (last observation in 1975), vulnerable in the south of Belgium. Most observed in the limestone area and the extreme south but always very local.

The larva lives on several species of Malvaceae, like Malva, Althaea, Alcea and Lavatera.

The adults fly in two to three generations a year: from mid April till late May, from late June till mid August and partially from late August till mid September.
