Lycaenidae

The Lycaenidae include around 6000 species most of which occur in the Tropics. The subfamily Riodininae is often given family rank. It occurs mainly in the Neotropics. The Lycaeninae have most representatives in the Holarctic region and the Polyommatinae are represented in all major biogeographical regions (Scoble 1992: 313).
