Micropterigidae
are probably the most primitive family in the order Lepidoptera,
sometimes even treated as a separate order of insects (Scoble 1992:
192). Distributed with 118 described species in all major
zoogeographical regions, but many specimens in several collections
remain unnamed (Kristensen
1984).
