Micropterix calthella (Linnaeus, 1761)

A common species throughout Belgium.

The larva has been found on the tender, young growth of herbaceous plants. It hibernates. The imago feeds on the pollen of many herbaceous plants.

The adults fly from early May, sometimes even in April, till mid June. They are active during daytime and can easily be found feeding in the flower-heads of Ranunculus or Caltha palustris.
