Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Stigmella trimaculella (Haworth, 1828)

A rather common species in Belgium.

The larva makes a leafmine on different species of Populus and on cultivars.

The adults fly in two generations a year; during May and August. They often rest om poplar trunks.

ID mine: starts as a slender gallery, initial corridor not contorted and often following a vein, frass in a narrow black central line. The later gallery widens appreciably, often forming a false blotch, frass pattern variable.
