of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Acronicta cuspis (Hübner, 1813)

A very rare and local species in Belgium, mainly known from 2 southern provinces and Limburg.

The larva lives on several deciduous tree species, like Alnus, Betula and Sorbus aucuparia. Hibernates as a pupa.

The adults fly in two generations a year; from mid May till the mid August. They come to light and sugar.

ID: The species can be differentiated from A. psi and A. tridens by the small dark central line between the patagia and the general rougher texture of the wing pattern.
