Melitaea aurelia (Nickerl, 1850)

A very rare and local species in Belgium. 2 old records (vagrants) in Flanders and in the south of Belgium known from 6 populations. Critically endangered!

The larva lives on Plantago lanceolata, Melampyrum pratense and Rhinanthus minor. Hibernates as a larva.

The adults fly in one generation a year; onwards from mid June towards early August.
