Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Bacotia claustrella (Bruand, 1845)

A rare species in Belgium, hitherto only known from 2 provinces. As with other Psychids, this species is  probably underrecorded.

The larva feeds on lichens growing on tree-trunks and lives in a small case. It is attached to bark in such a way that it simulates exactly a bud and thereby making detection very difficult. It hibernates in the case and pupates in it.

The adults fly in June and July. The moths are mainly active in the morning sunshine. The female is apterous.
