Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Bankesia conspurcatella (Zeller, 1850)

Due to the early flight period and the fact that this is a small species, it is overlooked in many places.

The larva lives on lichens growing on tree-trunks and fences. It constructs a triangular case, tapered at both ends, covered with sand and lichen. It hibernates full-fed in the case and pupates in it.

The adults fly in February-March. The moths are mainly active in the morning sunshine. The female is apterous.
