Proutia betulina (Zeller, 1839)

A fairly common species.

The larva lives in a case which it constructs with fragments of vegetable matter such as bark, pine-needles, grass and lichens. It feeds on lichens, decaying plants and fresh leaves. It pupates in the case attached to a twig or a tree trunk.

Flight season is from late May to July in one generation a year. The females are apterous and living entirely in the larval case.
