Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Phalacropterix graslinella (Boisduval, 1852)

A very rare species in Belgium, only known from the province of Antwerpen.

The larva lives two years in a case to which small plant particles are attached. It is polyphagous but has been observed to feed on Calluna, Thymus, Geranium and Centaurea, preferably in moorland, swamps or heathland.
The male pupates low in the vegetation, the female in a conspicuous spot, e.g. high on a branch.

They have been observed from late April towards mid June. Males fly in the sunshine  and live only some days, the wingless females several weeks.
