Ptilocephala plumifera (Ochsenheimer, 1810)

A very rare species in Belgium, only known from the Kempen. 

The larva lives close to the ground in a silken case covered with plant material, where it feeds on several low herbaceous plants and grasses, a.o. Calluna and Thymus. Its development takes one year. The adult males lives only 1 to 8 days, the wingless females up to one month.

They have been seen from late March towards early July. Males fly in the sunshine.
