Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Gillmeria pallidactyla (Haworth, 1811)

A rather common species in most areas of Belgium.

The larva lives in the stem of Achillea millefolium or Achillea ptarmica. It hibernates in the roots of the foodplant. In spring it mines the young shoots causing them to drop. Pupation on the stem or a leaf of the foodplant.

The adults fly from July till early September. They are active at dusk and come to light.

ID: similar in appearance to G. ochrodactyla, but pale brown markings are not so developed. Best to identify on the brown-grey, distally gradually paler brown hindlegs.
