of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Platyptilia nemoralis  Zeller, 1841

A rather rare species in Belgium. Probably overlooked due to it resemblance with P. gonodactyla.

The larva feeds in the shoots on Senecio fuchsii, S. fluviatilisS. sarracenicus and S. nemorensis. Pupation in the feeding chambers.

The adults fly in one generation a year; onwards from early July till late August. They come to light.

ID: very similar in appearance with P. gonodactyla, but P. nemoralis differs in having a well developed scaletooth at the dorsum of the third lobe. (see photo)
