Stenoptilia pterodactyla (Linnaeus, 1761)

A local and rare species in Belgium, mainly recorded from the coast and the southern provinces.

The larva lives at first in the stem of a terminal shoot of Veronica chamaedrys, killing the tip, then hibernating in the stem. It continues feeding on the flowers during spring. Pupation on the foodplant or nearby foliage.

The adults fly from mid June till mid August. They are active at dusk and later come to light.
