of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Scythris inspersella (Hübner, 1817)

One of the more easy to recognize members of this family, but still local and rare in Belgium, seldom recorded however the main food plant is very common.

The larva lives in spun leaves of mainly Epilobium angustifolium, but also recorded on E. montanum and E. hirsitum. Pupates in a white cocoon in a silken web amongst the shoots and leaves of the food plant.

The adults fly in one generation a year; from mid June towards late August. Does not come often on light.
