Zygaena lonicerae (Scheven, 1777)

This rare and local species is only known from the province of Brabant and from the southern provinces.

The larva lives on different species of Trifolium and Lathyrus. Cocoon detached on the stems of grasses.

The adults fly from end of June towards end of July in one generation. They are active during the day and visiting different flowers like Scabiosa, Knautia, Cirsium and Centaurea.

ID: rather similar to Z. trifolli, but separated by the usually larger size, longer and narrow forewing with apex attenuate, spot 3 smaller than spot 4 and not confluent and hindwing border pronounced extending from apex to before tornus.
