Catalogue
of the Lepidoptera of Belgium

Pancalia schwarzella (Fabricius, 1798)

Rarely observed and only known from old records from 2 Belgian provinces (Brabant and Liège). Recently (2009) rediscovered in the province of Liège.

The larva lives at first mining in a petiole of Viola canina, V. hirta  and probably V. calaminaria.

The adults fly in one generation a year, usually from mid April till mid June, but have been reported from late March onwards. They are active during the day, especially in the morning and afternoon and  are attracked to yellow flowers.
